So... What is AdBlue?
If you drive a diesel, you may be wondering what this strange fluid you’ve been pouring into your car actually does. Firstly, we hope you haven’t put any in your fuel tank by mistake!

Depending on your car’s manufacturer, you’ll find the AdBlue filler cap either beside the fuel cap, under the bonnet, or in the boot or spare wheel well if you’re doing well enough to be driving around in a BMW or Mercedes-Benz—but not quite well enough to have your butler top-up your AdBlue for you. You wont be able to miss the AdBlue cap because, well, it’s bright blue. Confusingly though, the AdBlue itself is not blue or in fact any colour at all.† It is a fluid designed to neutralise toxic exhaust gases.

______________________
† Some people believe AdBlue is made from pig urine, which whilst also not being blue, isn’t pure or sterile enough to be fit for purpose. The urea used in AdBlue is artificial and won’t make your car smell like a pig sty.
How does it work?
While the engine is running, AdBlue is injected into the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, where it reacts with exhaust fumes as they exit the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). A chemical reaction occurs between the AdBlue and toxic nitrogen-oxide (NOx) gas, neutralising the NOx by converting it into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

How long does it last?
Ten litres of AdBlue should last between 6,000 and 8,000 miles. If you are low on AdBlue, most cars will reduce engine performance automatically, in an effort to keep your emissions within specifications.
What AdBlue services do you provide?
We will inspect your AdBlue system for faults and top-up your levels as part of a regular service but if you want to top-up your AdBlue by yourself just make sure to get ISO 22241-certified AdBlue.

Our technicians use professional emissions diagnostics tools to diagnose any faults with your AdBlue system, and can replace any parts if necessary.
